Kennebec Child Development Corporation (SKCDC)
Is
a private, non-profit Agency governed by a fifteen (15) member Board of
Directors, and has been
providing Early Care and Education Programs since 1966.
Introduction
SKCDC operates Head Start, Early Head Start, and Child Care Programs in licensed facilities in southern Kennebec County, sponsors Family Child Care Providers for participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, operates the Child Care Resource Development Center - Child Care Options in Kennebec and Somerset Counties, and implements the statewide “Care for ME” program.

Early Head Start
Head Start is a comprehensive child development
program for children ages 3-5 whose families are income eligible. |

Head Start
Early Head Start is a full day, full year
program for infants and toddlers that incorporates comprehensive
child development services. |

Expectant Families
We partner with Kennebec Valley Community Action Program Healthy Families and Maine Parent Federation Parents as Teachers Programs, two community based home visiting programs
to offer education and support for expectant parents. |

HomeStart
HomeStart combines Head Start and Family
Child Care into a full day, full year quality early childhood
experience at a minimal cost to families. |

Child Care
Child Care is a child development program
providing full day services to children of families who are employed
or participating in employment training programs. |
|

Child
and Adult Care Food Program
Early Care and Education Centers and Family
Child Care Homes, sponsored by SKCDC, participate in the USDA/
Child and Adult Care Food Program, providing reimbursement for
nutritious meals served to enrolled children. Families of
children who attend these programs do not pay for meals. SKCDC
sponsors Family Child Care Homes in Kennebec and southern Somerset
Counties. |

Child Care Options
The Resource Development Center provides
child care referrals, information on choosing child care, training
and resources for child care professionals, and technical assistance
to businesses. |

Care
for ME
The "Care for ME" program promotes
responsible caregiving for children in Maine by identifying in-home/license
exempt caregivers who have successfully passed voluntary background
checks.

SKCDC is dedicated to providing and supporting the development of and access to quality early care and education programs that are responsive to children, families and professionals.
Agency
Vision
All families who need child care will be able to access quality services and inclusive care in the setting of their choice. Child care professionals will have access to supportive services that will assist in the development of quality care options for Maine’s children.
To achieve
this Vision, SKCDC will:
- Provide and support the development of quality, accessible, flexible, affordable child care options designed to address the child care needs of income eligible families that support economic self-sufficiency.
- Provide Head Start and Early Head Start services and options for eligible families.
- Expand existing collaborative and partnership efforts with State, community agencies and child care providers that will increase and enhance quality services for children and families.
- Promote family partnerships that recognize parents as the primary educators, nurturers, and advocates for their children that encourage a meaningful role in decision making and other parent training/involvement opportunities.
- Provide and/or sponsor training and professional development opportunities for staff and child care providers, and
- Provide and/or facilitate the development of comprehensive developmentally appropriate programs for children through an integrated family-focused service delivery system.
