Professional Development Opportunities

Professional Development in child care and early education is the process of obtaining a specialized body of knowledge and competencies that are shared by all. The Early Childhood Education professional has knowledge and skills that all practitioners need to know regardless of role, setting or level.

Child Care Options assists in recruiting, training and supporting child care and early education practitioners by providing technical assistance and educational information specifically focused on increasing professional development and early childhood knowledge. We work with child care providers, parents, community agencies, educational institutes, Head Start, and other local child care agencies to improve the delivery, coordination and quality of child care in local communities.

Child Care Options delivers the Maine Roads to Quality Core Knowledge Training Curriculum, which is a series of training designed to meet the needs of family and center based child care and early education professionals.

The Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the Department of Education have developed Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, which have been aligned with the K-12 Public School Learning Results to assist child care programs in preparing children for school. Programs will have access to training on how to use these guidelines.
