Professional Development Highlight: Teacher Home Visits
We began Thursday morning with a powerful discussion led by Susan Wydra from the Donahue Institute on the many benefits of teacher home visits. This was followed by a panel with staff and parents, where both groups shared their experiences of this important part of the Head Start model.
Home visits are a unique requirement of Head Start because they help teachers and families build strong relationships right from the start. One theme that came up often was that the first visit can feel a little uncomfortable for both parents and teachers, but it quickly turns into a positive experience. Home visits create trust, open communication, and prepare families and children for a successful year ahead.
We are deeply grateful to the parents who joined the conversation and shared their voices.
